In March 2019, Debra and I flew to San Antonio Texas. We retrieved our bags, completed the paperwork on our car rental (a VW Tiguan), and spent the next 13 days sightseeing a triangle of three south central cities – San Antonio, Houston and Austin. We spent a few days in each, and put about 1,200 miles on the odometer as we traveled from city to city and made day trips to outlying destinations.
In the weeks before we left for Texas, Debra and I Googled "things to do in ___" and created an initial list of 10 places to see in and near each city. After researching each, we narrowed the list to the places that we were most interested in. Like all good plans, ours was flexible, and once we were in Texas we made a modification or two on the fly. All in all, we were pleased with the choices we made. Did we miss something? Sure…but that was what a return trip was for!
We learned a lot about the history of Texas on our trip - the early Spanish missions, the fight for independence, big oil and space flight, and more. We toured a handful of museums, including two presidential libraries, and saw beautiful architecture and countryside. We had a great time!
