About
Hi! I'm Howard Schildhouse. I love to travel — to see the world, experience different cultures, and meet interesting people. Mostly I travel with my wife Debra, but sometimes I travel with one of our children, Jill or David. And more often than not, as soon as we return home, I'm planning our next trip. Debra appreciates traveling as much as I do, but when I booked a bucket-list cruise through the Panama Canal immediately before we left for a cruise of the British Isles (with only eight weeks in between the two!), she looked at me and said, "It must be wanderlust." And in that moment, I thought, "That's the perfect name for my travel blog.”
So who am I besides someone who loves to travel? Professionally, I'm an accountant who earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management. Over my 45-year career, I worked for various companies in lots of industries and in many capacities, from staff accountant to chief financial officer.
I am also an amateur "photophile," a fancy name for a person who loves to take and share photos. My phone is my camera, and since my phone is always with me, I am at the ready for the next photo opportunity.
You already know that I'm a husband and father, so allow me to share a bit about my family.. Debra and I have been married for 45 years. We're best friends. Debra is a published author. A few years back, she wrote Bio-Touch: Healing with the Power in Our Fingertips. You can find out more about Debra and her book at www.debraschildhouse.com. Jill, a journalist for various national magazines, covers a wide range of topics. Her favorite topics, though, are food and travel. You can follow her journey at www.instagram.com/the_globalglutton. David is an accountant and student, and an E-sports broadcaster for car racing in his spare time. Our children are a blessing, and we are fortunate that they live nearby — and that we still enjoy traveling with one another.
I retired in 2017 when and Debra and I moved to a 55+ active adult community outside of Phoenix, Arizona. We got involved in many activities and clubs, made new friends, and, best of all, began to travel more. There is no doubt that we are having the time of our lives!
I may not be a professional writer, but I am an enthusiastic writer about our travels, endeavoring to create interesting and meaningful stories about our experiences and the memories we've collected along the way. I hope my stories will serve as inspiration for your own travels.
Thank you for stopping by. I invite you to return from time to time to see what is new.
