It was April 2015. A seven-day road trip crossing eight states from Georgia to Arizona. Tupelo and Elvis, Little Rock and the Clinton Library, Memphis and Gus’s Fried Chicken, Oklahoma City and the Museum of Osteology, Albuquerque and Skandia Mountains, and much, much more. It was an epic trip for David and me, and an opportunity for some father and son bonding. I hope to find time later this year to begin writing about that trip, but for now, I’ll tell you about another trip that David and I took. This one was in May 2018.
David had just completed coursework for a degree in Applied Sciences with a major in accounting. He earned straight A’s while working full time, which was quite the accomplishment. “Time for David to have some fun,” Debra and I thought. And so we asked him if he would like to go on another father and son trip…but this time to Europe. It took David all of a few seconds to say “Yes!”
Our trip started in London – three days of sightseeing in the city and a couple of day trips, one to Oxford and another to the county of Kent. “Why Oxford and the county of Kent?” you might ask. Well, Debra and I have friends who live there – lovely couples we’ve met on past cruises and stayed in touch with – and they hosted David and me on our day trips.

From London we headed to the port town of Southampton, where we boarded the Sapphire Princess for a seven-day Scandinavia cruise, with port stops in Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. I know, I know! Belgium is not a Scandinavian country, but Princess called this a Scandinavia cruise and so will I.
This trip was David’s first to Europe and my first time in these countries. It was awesome!
