Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Show Low, Arizona (January 24, 2021) I launched my travel blog in December 2019 to share my best travel memories with family, friends and others. My first story was about a cross country trip in 1972. Since then, I have posted more than 100 travel stories. I wrote most (maybe all) of these stories in the past tense, weeks, months, and sometimes years after I traveled. I am writing this story, though, in the present tense – written and published today about today.
Debra and I are in Show Low, located in White Mountains about 200 miles northeast of Phoenix, where we have a second home. WE LOVE IT HERE! Why? Show Low is a small town (about 5,000 residents), the pine-scented mountain air is clean, and there is a four-seasons climate.

Today is a true winter day. As I write this post, it is 28 degrees and snowing, with a few inches of that white stuff already on the ground and many more inches forecasted over the next couple of days. And so it is picture perfect weather in my book to be outdoors…and this is what I did before I sat down to write.

Sporting a parka, ski cap, thermal gloves, and boots, I enter a wooded area blanketed with snow, no more than the length of a football field from our home. Further on I walk around a small lake coated by a thin layer of ice. (“BE CAREFUL – THIN ICE,” the sign says.)

It is a glorious day - a day to rejoice in Mother Nature!

Much of my travel this year, I suspect, will be short trips within Arizona from our home in Show Low. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you.
