Boston, Massachusetts (October 30, 2016) Debra and I honeymooned in Boston in 1974. Much to her chagrin, we did a lot of Colonial-era sightseeing (it’s not “her thing”). But we also went to the Museum of Science, created stone rubbings at an old cemetery, and had a memorable lobster dinner on Cape Cod.
We perused the list of “things to do” this day and Debra chose the New England Aquarium, which is located at the city’s Central Wharf. It was a great choice! The main attraction was the four-story Giant Ocean Tank that housed hundreds of species of fish, a coral reef, and other underwater creatures. The star was Myrtle, a green sea turtle more than 45 years old! There were many smaller tanks, too, with sea dragons (my choice for cutest fish), sea jellies, lionfish, starfish, and more. Debra’s favorite exhibit featured a sometimes-frenzied colony of tuxedoed penguins: noisy, sleek-bodied Africans and feather-crested Rockhoppers. The latter can jump up to six feet in a single hop! The look on Debra’s face was sheer delight. We had a grand time at the aquarium, with more great memories of Beantown! |
