A Helicopter Ride to Mendenhall Glacier

Juneau, Alaska (May 9, 2010) When I planned our Alaskan cruise, I told Debra that I found the perfect tour in Juneau - a trip to 13-mile long Mendenhall Glacier.

"Sounds good," Debra said. "And the ride there will be a blast," I said. Debra said, "What do you mean?" "Oh, I guess I forgot to mention," I said, "that we'll go by helicopter!" Silence...dead silence. And then Debra said, "Are you crazy? People die on helicopter tours!" Well, with some discussion and a bit of cajoling, I convinced her to go.

Debra was still apprehensive as we boarded the helicopter. She didn't have time to reconsider her decision, though, because we quickly lifted off. We soared to 4,000 feet and flew at 140 MPH, and soon touched down on Mendenhall Glacier. We saw "blue ice", tasted glacial melt, and explored the glacier. It was awesome! And guess what? Debra had the time of her life!!
