Miami, Florida (January 23, 2010) Debra loves birds - especially parrots. So, when we planned a few days in Ft. Lauderdale ahead of our Caribbean cruise, we added Jungle Island to our sightseeing itinerary. This 22-acre eco-adventure park is located on Watson Island in Biscayne Bay.
We read storybook exhibits, watched animal shows, wandered among the tropical plants, and gazed at the monkeys, turtles, flamingos and other animals. For Debra, though, these activities played second fiddle to the stars of Jungle Island, the parrots – like these two Hyacinth Macaws, which seem interested in something. Ahhhh – it was a treat that Debra had for them! We stopped at each parrot exhibit as we made our way around Jungle Island – and there were many. Along the way we saw Amazons, many species of macaws, a caique, and a friendly (and very soft!) cockatoo who LOVED having his back scratched.
FUN FACT
A group of parrots is called a Pandemonium!
Debra had the most fun, though, in the free-flight exhibit of lorikeets, a parrot native to Australia. It was pure pandemonium (and delight for Debra!) as she fed them with small cups of nectar.
