Me, Debra, and Reverand Scuderi
Salt Lake City, Utah (June 14-18, 2024) “Debra and I are going to Salt Lake City in June,” I said to a friend a month or so ago.
“Why Salt Lake City?” he asked.
“Because we couldn’t find an officiant in Santa Fe,” I replied with a wink.
This was our Golden Anniversary year—50 years since we said, “I do”—and it was time to again for Debra and me to renew our vows. I said “again” because we renewed our vows to celebrate our Silver Anniversary in 1999. Then, we were on board the U.S.S. Independence on a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands…and our children were with us.
We had hoped to renew our vows in Santa Fe, a city neither of us had visited before. But as I told my friend, we could not secure an officiant on the date we had in mind—June 16, the date we were married. So, we turned our sights to Salt Lake City, which we planned to visit later this year, and lickety-split, we booked Reverand Scuderi to officiate our vow renewal ceremony.
“Debra, as long as we’re driving to Salt Lake City, let’s add a day front and back to visit Moab and Kanab, two towns I’m interested in seeing.”
“Sounds great!” she replied.
I look forward to sharing our experiences and memories with you—especially our vow renewal ceremony.
